TAIPEI, Taiwan — "Chinese Vice Minister of Health, Huang Jiefu, visited Taiwan on Jan. 19 to attend the H1N1 Prevention Symposium in Taipei. While attending the symposium, he was confronted with questions related to the allegations of live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners in China, but avoided answering them.
French TV5 Network cited a non-governmental report on Jan. 7 stating that there are more than 300 concentration camps with 300,000 detainees in China; 150,000 of whom are Falun Gong practitioners who have all experienced a comprehensive blood analysis. This is a prerequisite to finding matching organs for potential organ transplant customers.
It was reported that Huang Jiefu personally performed a liver transplant in Xinjiang in September 2005. From searching for a liver to having the liver delivered to the operation room, it only took him about one day. He also had two livers delivered to him, one from Chongqing and the other from Guangzhou, it was reported. This level of efficiency and speed in organ matching is not a secret in China’s organ harvesting community.
During the intermission at the conference, a reporter broached Huang Jiefu and asked: 'Canadian human rights lawyer David Matas and former Canadian Secretary of State for Asia-Pacific David Kilgour have revealed in their investigation report the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has conducted live organ harvesting of Falun Gong ...' Before the sentence was completed, a guard next to Huang interrupted, 'Minister, the meeting hall is calling you to go back.'
Huang Jiefu responded that he had already explained China’s organ policy and future guide at the International Congress of Transplantation Society at Sydney. Huang evaded the question about the allegation that the CCP had conducted live organ harvesting from Falun Gong adherents. When pressed by the reporter, Huang Jiefu said, 'I do not wish to comment to the media. I am a surgeon.'
Huang was pulled away and quickly squeezed into an elevator. Behind a human shield of security guards, the reporter once again confronted him and asked him if the CCP is going to respond to the request made by the UN Committee against Torture (UNCAT) for an open investigation of the allegation. After several requests, Huang finally said that he had already answered the question.
Chiu Huang-Chuan, Vice-Chair of the Asia Division of the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, wondered whether Huang’s evasion of the question meant he felt guilty. Chiu cautioned the Taiwanese government, political parties, and the public about Huang Jiefu’s personal background, 'an unspeakable background of violating human rights.'"
